Cory Rhoad Obituary, Death News – A fatal crash occurred Wednesday evening on Route 22 in Lebanon County, resulting in the death of one man, according to the Pennsylvania State Police. The collision took place around 4:32 p.m. at the intersection of Allentown Boulevard (Route 22) and Coon Creek Road in East Hanover Township. Authorities reported that a 67-year-old man was driving a 2010 Honda Fit and had stopped at a stop sign on Coon Creek Road. After checking for oncoming traffic in both directions, he proceeded to make a turn onto Route 22.
As the Honda entered the roadway, it was struck by a 2009 SAAB 93B traveling along Route 22. The impact of the collision was severe, and emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The driver of the SAAB, identified as 35-year-old Cory Rhoad of Schuylkill Haven in Schuylkill County, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lebanon County coroner. No additional passengers were reported in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda Fit was taken to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Authorities said he suffered what appeared to be minor injuries.
Following the accident, a section of Route 22 was shut down for nearly five hours as law enforcement officers and emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct a thorough investigation. Traffic was diverted during this time to allow for accident reconstruction and ensure the safety of responders and motorists.
Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to examine the details of the crash, including the speeds of the vehicles involved and other potential contributing factors. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the crash appears to have resulted from a tragic misjudgment at the intersection.
Local residents and travelers experienced significant delays as authorities closed down the affected stretch of highway. The road was eventually reopened later that evening after all necessary cleanup and investigative procedures had been completed.
Cory Rhoad’s death marks another tragic incident on Pennsylvania’s roads, serving as a reminder of the risks associated with even routine traffic maneuvers. Authorities have not released the name of the Honda driver involved in the crash, but confirmed that he is recovering from his injuries.
Police are urging all drivers to exercise extra caution at intersections and remain alert at all times, especially on busy highways like Route 22. While the investigation is ongoing, officials are hoping to learn more from any witnesses or surveillance footage that may have captured the crash.
