Calvin Dunson Obituary, Death – The Dillon County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who lost his life in a car crash that injured four others late Friday night. Coroner Donnie Grimsley confirmed that the deceased was 78-year-old Calvin Dunson. According to Grimsley, Dunson was transported for an autopsy following the crash, which determined that his death was caused by injuries sustained in the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday night. The crash took place on Highway 301 at the intersection with Elkins Road, just a few miles outside the town of Dillon.
Authorities said that Dunson was a passenger in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, which was traveling eastbound on Elkins Road. As the Mercury approached the intersection, it collided with a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was heading north on Highway 301.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and transported Dunson to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he later died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis was also taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, three occupants of the Dodge Ram pickup truck suffered injuries in the crash and were also hospitalized. At this time, officials have not released any updates on their medical conditions.
